Yoga to release feet and low leg tension – 5 simple poses
This has got to be one of the most common areas that I get asked about! And, there is so much that our feet, Achilles and calves can benefit from with a yoga practice.
The best thing is to create a well-rounded yoga practice routine that incorporates foot work, but in this video I show you just 5 simple poses that you can do in just a few minutes, that will help to release tension in the soles of feet, the Achilles and calves.
Why is this so important?
Good foot flexibility and mobility (as well as strength) keeps us stable as we run, as it adapts to the ground underneath us. If the foot is too stiff, it’s unable to be responsive to the ground, and we loose stability.
Tension and stiffness can build up in the foot for a number of reasons: continual running with no stretching, wearing stiff/ tight shoes, as a result of tight calves, poor posture.
Taking good care of our feet by learning how to effectively release accumulated tension to keep them supple, plus how to keep them strong (see next week’s video), will not only massively improve our running, but improve our posture and therefore the way that we move, live and feel daily.
Plus, look after your feet and lower legs, as part of a whole-body practice, will help to keep common running related injuries away.
Try this video in the evening, or after a run.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts!
